Cosplay Contest

DualCon’s Cosplay Contest will take place at 5pm in Panel 1. You will need to register at the con before hand.

Contest Rules

  1. You must have purchased an entry into DualCon 2023 in order to enter and present on stage for the Costume Contest.
  2. The Costume Contest is a family-oriented event. Please keep all costumes to a “PG” rating. (i.e no nudity or overly revealing attire, no excessive gore, etc.)
  3. No bought costumes. Costume must be 50% handcrafted or more. You may purchase parts of a costume but said parts must be disclosed during the judging process. If you are modeling a costume you did not make yourself, the maker of the costume must be present with you upon entry. If the costume wins an award, the award is given to the maker of the costume, not the model wearing it.
  4. All weapons and props must conform with DualCon rules, convention center policies, and local laws concerning carrying a weapon. If there is a question or doubt, don’t bring it.
  5. If your costume is meant to represent a character from a specific IP, please provide reference images of the character. We cannot guarantee the judges will know what your character looks like, so having something to compare to will help you as much as them.
  6. The contest will be limited to 50 entries total. Please preregister to guarantee a spot. Groups may count as one.
  7. DualCon reserves the right to modify, update, or amend rules at any time.
  8. The judge(s’) decisions are final

PLEASE NOTE —  We hope you will use good judgement and sportsmanship when entering the contest.

Cosplay Guest Katwoman Cosplay

“Katwoman Cosplay (vocalist, actress, performer)  is known for her “Disney Princess” voice and her motto, “walk a mile in their shoes.” She is honored to guest at Dualcon! She has a YouTube channel (@katwomancosplay) as well as an Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok all under the same name.

Katwoman (or “Kat”) is a vocal education major at Marshall University. She is planning on teaching children about the beauty of music after she graduates. Musical theatre is her favorite thing in the entire world, and she was a theatre geek most of her formative years. She believes in staying weird and never growing up.”

Tsubasacon and Crash City Con

Tsubasacon is this weekend at the Charleston Convention Center in Charleston. Same place as DualCon will be but we will not be as big.

They will have 24 free to play arcade cabinets (focus on Japanese, fighters, and rhythm games) from Save Point; pachinko machines from Pachinko Fever; a Mobile Gaming area with Smash Tournaments, Animal Crossing and Pokémon meet-ups, and more; console gaming will be run by Aegis Gaming, with Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, and Mortal Kombat tournaments along with a mix of old and new consoles to play on.

On the Table-Top side of things they have several tournaments for TCGs (Magic, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Flesh and Blood), Pathfinder Society, board game demos with creators, Battletech demos, Marvel Crises Protocol, Gaslands, Warhammer 40k tournament, Ghastbashers, a Paint & Take (for $3.50 till they run out), and more.

DualCon will be running late night gaming on Friday and Saturday starting at 8pm. We will have a collection of board, card, dice, and miniature games based on animes, inspired by anime, Japanese translated games, and even some RPGs on Demand. Afraid no video games this time, but we will have a table in the vendors hall where you can catch us every now and then to chat with.

Guests for this are voice actors Chris Patton (Haikyuu, FMA, Princess Tutu), Cythia Craz (DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Case Closed), Bill Butts (Twitch Streamer, My Hero Academia, Genshin Impact), singer and musician Lisa Furukawa, and panelist groups Vitamin H and Interpret As You Will.

They will also be having a cosplay contest, Cosplay Prom, EDM Dance, panels on all kinds of subjects, video room, vendors and artists, manga library, game shows, concerts, and much more.

This weekend is also Crash City Con in Roanoke, VA for those who would like something a little smaller.

RPG sessions of D&D, Shadowrun, Dungeon Crawl Classic, Apokillypse RPG, Savage Worlds, GURPS, Pathfinder and Starfinder, and more; CCG tournaments and free play of Magic, My Hero Academia, Pokemon, Flesh and Blood, and Yu-Gi-Oh; Kids Gaming, Gaslands, and Cards Against Humanity.

Their Guest of Honor is award winning author RS Belcher. They will have panels on gaming and gaming creation, beatboxing, karaoke, cosplay panels and contest.

Go say hi to our friends at the con and tell them we would have liked to have been there too.

The Outer Rim Praxeum Lightsaber School

The Outer Rim Praxeum Lightsaber School practices a performance martial art based on their interpretation of the seven lightsaber forms of the Star Wars universe. They teach our students to create movie-like duels that appear to be choreographed, but are actually competitive and almost wholly improvised.

Founded in Fairmont in 2015, they have since attracted an expanding fan base and appeared at over 100 events in West Virginia and beyond! They are a not-for-profit organization and strive for positive engagement with our fans and community through fundraisers, children’s events, and other worthy causes.
Since 2018, they have been collecting financial donations for the WVU Children’s Hospital through giveaways and good-natured Light Side vs. Dark Side competitions.
They have previously supported the local Jack Strong Foundation.
